Regular programs about wildflowers and flowering plants started longer ago than the 18 years I have been a volunteer for McCormick’s Creek.
What was known as “WILDFLOWER WEEKEND” provided an opportunity to learn more about flowering plants . Hiking trails in the park. Some years craft project programs were included. In 2007 The Owen County SWCD and the IDNR-Division of Forestry had a wildflower event at the Owen Co. SWCD Demonstration Forest.
In early 2008 a committee was formed to create the "OWEN COUNTY WILDFLOWER WEEKEND'. It was determined there were other areas in Owen County
with unique habitat that should be included in a spring event. McCormick's Creek State Park would remain the hub of activities. Members of the 2008 committee include
* Gwen Deter - Owen County SWCD.
* Marc Evans - volunteer, webmaster of "Wildflowers of McCormicks Creek and Southwest Indiana".
* Marquita Manley - Naturalist, McCormick's Creek State Park.
* Cathy Meyer - Naturalist Monroe Parks and Recreation.
* Andrea Oeding - Seasonal Naturalist,McCormick's Creak State Park.
