(A) Preview Hike—Quarry Area

Meet: Canyon Inn entrance
Marc Evans shares his knowledge of the park’s wildflowers on this moderate hike.
(B) Preview Hike—Falls Area
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Meet: Canyon Inn entrance
Marc Evans leads this informative easy walk to the waterfalls.
Saturday, April 17
(1) Wildflowers of McCormick’s
Creek and Canyon
9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Meet: Nature Center
Get your hiking boots ready for a rugged 2-hour wildflower identification hike along the White River and canyon area with Interpretive Naturalist Amanda Simmons.
(2) Wildflowers of McCormick’s Creek Wolf Cave Preserve
9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Meet: Nature Center
Join Interpretive Naturalist Marquita Manley for a 1-hour easy walk to identify common spring wildflowers!
(3) Nature Preserves and the Park
Meet: Nature Center
11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Tom Swinford, IDNR Nature
Preserves, shares perspectives on the importance of Nature Preserves and
information related to our area.

Wildflowers

(5) Cataract Falls Site Tour
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Meet: Cataract Falls
Carpool from Nature Center at 12:30 p.m.
Location: Take Hwy 231 north for 12 miles. Turn left onto 1050 N. Within less than a mile you will cross the bridge over Mill Creek. The park will be on the right.
Visit the largest waterfall by volume in the state of Indiana! Look for species that thrive in this wet habitat.
(6) Hike McCormick’s Cove Nature Preserve
1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Meet: Friendly Shelter Parking Lot
This trail has two
parts—hike part or all of this moderate trail that circles through big trees
and bottomlands. Our leader is Tom Swinford, DNR
Nature Preserves.
(7) Indiana Demonstration Forest Tour
4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Meet: Owen County Soil and Water Conservation District Farm
Location: Take 46 to Spencer to connect with 67 South and turn right on Hancock School Road. (About a 15 minute drive from State Park)
Trees have flowers, too! District Forester Ralph Unversaw will help you ID trees and shrubs, and help you recognize their unique flowers. See a new area and learn more about how demonstration farms assist local practices.

(8) Keynote Speaker: Tom Hohman

Meet: Redbud Shelter
(Located across the road from the Nature Center)
Enjoy a fireside chat and learn more about the Indiana Native Plant and Wildflower Society. Discover what you can do to help preserve our native wildflowers. Tom Hohman is president of the Indianapolis chapter of INPAWS.
Sunday, April 18
(9) Unique Habitat / Greens Bluff
Nature Preserve/ Pre-register.
Carpool: Nature Center at
Location:
Take Hwy 43 South 5 miles and turn right onto
Ellen Jacquart, The Nature Conservancy, will reveal the secrets of this beautiful property. Limit 20 persons.
(10) Floral Fixins’: Nature’s Medicine Cabinet
Meet: Nature Center
Join a naturalist on an accessible trail to identify ten plants that are historically reported to treat our ailments.
(11) WOW Hike (Wonderful Owen Wildflowers!!!)
Meet: Wolf Cave Parking Lot
If you haven’t already been stunned by the amazing diversity and unique species of wildflowers in Owen County, join us for another WOW!!
(12) Bonus Hike!
Meet: Wolf Cave Parking Lot
This short hike explores an
area of the Canyon where shooting stars bloom!
